Journeyman Skill Advancement Class Listing The following list of training courses is available to all carpenter and millwright members of the South Central Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters. Apprentices may also register for classes. Journeyman will be given priority and apprentices entered as alternates. TECHNICAL CLASSES
C-102 Basic Metal Studs/Drywall: 20 Hours: Content includes hand/power tool usage, safety standards, measuring and cutting operations, layout and installation of metal studs, drywall, metal door frames/door/hardware, basic soffit installation and wallboard applications and installations. C-103 Intermediate Metal Studs/Drywall: 24 Hours: Content includes expanded coverage of the fundamentals presented in C-102, commercial framing from basic to advanced, light pocket, use of preformed materials and applications of various layout and framing methods. C-104 Metal Lath/Heavy Gauge Framing: 20 Hours: Content includes layout and installation of metal lath components used in wall and ceiling applications. Also includes heavy gauge framing applications. C-105 Suspended Ceilings: 20 Hours: Content includes safety, tools, equipment, ceiling components, job planning, installation of anchors & hanger wires, grid, wall molding and ceiling panels. C-106 Advanced Acoustical Ceilings: 16 Hours: Content includes layout and installation of 12”X12” ceiling tile on a concealed grid system. Focusing primarily on leveling, straightening and squaring of the total system. C-107 Suspended Drywall Ceilings: 24 Hours: Content includes channel iron, drywall channel and drywall grid is used to install a flat ceiling. Print reading for related ceilings is included. C-111 Basic Concrete Formwork: 20 Hours: Content includes safety practices, familiarization of different aspects of concrete industry, structural drawings, properties of concrete, related math, formwork materials/ components and fabrication/ assembly of patented and job built forms. C-112 Advanced Concrete Formwork: 20 Hours: Content includes safety practices, elevated concrete beams and slabs, job-built and patented shoring systems. C-121 Basic Level & Transit: 28 Hours: Content includes the setup and the use of the builders level and transit level, leveling rods and targets, establishing elevations, turning angles and applicable math/blueprint reading concepts. C-122 Total Station Level: 28 Hours: Content includes the setup, reading elevations, turning angles and the EDM of the Topcon® GTS-313 Electronic Total Station. C-131 Basic Blueprint Reading: 28 Hours: Content includes review of construction math, system of lines and symbols, dimensions, construction materials, reading a set of commercial blueprints containing site plan, floor plan, elevations, sections/ details, structural framing and mechanical drawings. C-132 Advanced Blueprint Reading: 28 Hours: Content includes expanded coverage of blueprint reading fundamentals presented in the basic course. It is recommended that you have taken the basic blueprint reading course but not required. C-140 Construction Math: 20 Hours: Content includes refresher in basic math, calculating perimeter, area, volume as used in construction job situations. Math applications using the framing square and the Construction Master IV® are also included. C-150 Solid Surface Installation: 28 Hours: Content includes the process necessary to install solid surface materials with emphasis on seams, edges, cutouts, under mount bowls, sanding, polishing and repairs. Qualification card issued upon completion and will be recognized for installing Gibraltar®, Corian®, Surell®, and Avonite® products. C-201 Sheet Goods Installation: 30 Hours: Content includes job site preparation, safety issues, sub floors and underlayments, adhesives, tools, layout and fitting, pattern scribing, freehand knifing, seam cutting, estimating and repair work. C-202 Flash Coving/ Seam Welding: 28 Hours: Content includes job site preparation, safety, one piece flash cove installation with heat welding of seams, adhesives, tools, layout procedures, fitting and pattern scribing. C-203 Vinyl Tile Flooring: 28 Hours: Content includes job site preparation, safety issues, sub floors and underlayments, adhesives, tools, layout and fitting of vinyl tile flooring. C-301 Basic Arc Welding: 28 Hours: Content includes welding safety practices, types and composition of electrodes, striking an arc and running beads, welding flat/horizontal/vertical and overhead with E-6010, E-7018 and E- 6013 electrodes and setup/demonstration of oxyacetylene torch. M-302 Intermediate Arc Welding: 18 Hours: Content includes review of basic arc welding with emphasis on out-of-position welding using E-6010, E-7018 and E-6013 electrodes. Prerequisite: Basic Arc Welding M-303 MIG Welding: 30 Hours: Content includes welding safety practices, currents, shielding gases, wire feed process, welding of aluminum and stainless, uses/application of gas tungsten and gas metal arc, welding in flat/horizontal and incline positions. Prerequisite: Basic Arc Welding M-304 Optalign: 16 Hours: Content includes laser alignment applications and safety factors, assembling components, taking measurements and interpreting results on a coupling alignment and special applications. M-306 Coupling Alignment: Content includes use of formulas, including roll formula, for aligning the face and outside diameter of various couplings, proper use and interpretation of indicators and micrometers, thermal expansion rates for various metals and checking for soft foot and run out. 12 Hours M-307 Double O.D. Shaft Alignment: Content includes setup and application of reverse dial alignment methods with formulas and graphing methods. 8 Hours M-308 Chain and Belt Drives: Content includes chain/belt types, sizes and application, proper installation and tension formulas. 8 Hours M-310 Pre-Certification for Sheet Metal MIG Welding (Metal Studs): Content includes procedures, standards and qualifications necessary foe welding certification for sheet metal in accordance with the American Welding Society Standards. Shop work will include use of 110v Mig welder using solid-core wire with gas and flux-cored wire on 14, 16, 18 ga. sheet metal. 12 Hours M-311 Pre-Certification for Plate Test: Content includes procedures, standards and qualifications necessary for welding certification for 3/8" and 1" plate in accordance with the American Welding Society Standards. Codes covered will be D1.1 (Structural Steel) and D1.5 (Bridge Code). Prerequisite: Intermediate Welding 18 Hours
SAFETY TRAINING
S-601 Fall Protection: Content includes use of lanyards, harnesses, fall arresting devices applicable to OSHA reg SUBPART M. Qualification card issued upon completion. 4 Hours S-602 Lift Truck Operator: Content includes fundamentals and safe operating techniques of lift trucks, interpretation of OSHA reg. 29CFR 1910-178, written test and drivers test will be given, Lift truck operators license will be issued. 16 Hours S-604 Safety Training Passport: Content includes training to establish a basic standard of safety awareness in sixteen (16) areas of safety and health required by OSHA regs. Qualification card issued upon completion. 16 Hours S-610 Standard Scaffold Training: Content includes OSHA Subpart L, competent person requirements, load calculations, scaffold hazard recognition assembly and disassembly of Welded Frame & Mobile Tower Scaffold, Tube & Clamp Scaffold and Systems Scaffold. This class will include all materials covered in the S-605, S-606 and S-607 classes. Qualification card issued upon completion. 40 Hours S-611 Welded Frame and Mobile Tower Scaffolding: Content includes OSHA SUBPART L, competent person requirements, load calculations, scaffold hazard recognition, assembly and disassembly of welded frame and mobile tower scaffolding. Qualification card issued upon completion. 16 Hours S-614 Scaffold Refresher: Content includes Refresher of existing scaffold qualification. New qualification card issued upon completion. (Check existing card for expiration date) 8 Hours S-615 Hilti / Laser Certification: Content includes the training requirements under CFR 1926.302e Powder-actuated Tools) and CFR1926.54 (Non-ionizing Laser Radiation). Training qualification card will be issued for both subjects training requiremaents. 8 Hours S-616 Aerial Lift Qualification: Content includes OSHA SUBPART L, This course is designed to meet OSHA CFR 1926.453 (Aerial Lifts). Qualification card issued upon completion. 8 Hours S-620 Standard First Aid/CPR: Content includes the National Safety Council® First Aid and CPR training. Certification cards issued upon completion. 16 Hours S-630 Ergonomics: Content includes recognition of working conditions that lead to back injuries, muscle, joint and nerve problems that lead to pain and disability. Workers' compensation claims and strategies aimed at reducing risks are reviewed. 4 Hours S-640 Rigging: Contents include selection and inspection of slings, rigging hardware, selected knots, hitches, splices, calculating safe work loads, description and use of safe rigging practices listed in OSHA reg. 1910 and 1926. Qualification card issued upon completion. 32 Hours S-641 Rigging Refresher: Contents include refresher of existing rigging qualification. New qualification card issued upon completion. UNION BUILDING
U-101 COMET: The COMET class will discuss many of the issues that the union faces today and the goals for tomorrow. We will talk about some of our past history and how the union approaches these issues for our future and how the member is a vital part of organizing for the future. 3 Hours U-103 New Member: The new member class is designed to inform the member how the union operates from the General Office to the Regional Council to the local Union. We will discuss training programs, contracts, by-laws, work rules, health & welfare and the pension benefits. 3 Hours U-104 Steward Training Class: Contents include training on how to be a job union steward. 16 Hours U-104 VOC: Learn the skills necessary to help strengthen the union through organizing (Contact an agent for a schedule of times) 3 Hours REGISTRATION INFORMATION Click Here to register: registration form Or print this form and mail-in registration form marking your course selection(s). Additional class registration forms are available to be picked up at the regional office, local unions and the training center in Columbus. Starting dates will be determined by the number of members returning their registrations. When enough registrations are received to fill a class a course we will mail you a conformation notice with the starting date and the time of the course. You must have 100% attendance rate to receive a qualification card for safety classes.
